"NOT TODAY, FURBALL!"
After a week of trekking through the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, your intrepid Staff Photographer for 101Bananas.com was finally able to locate the elusive Homer and Maybelle Ozark, much celebrated in local myths and legends. After snapping the above photo immortalized here on the Banana Wall of Fame, a most unexpected incident occurred. Off to the left I was stunned to see a large gorilla running towards us, and I instinctively switched my camera to video mode to catch the action. Apparently the gorilla, not quite evolved to the Homo sapiens level, thought he spied two gigantic bananas that could be his dinner for a week. He attempted to do what gorillas do and tried to take Homer's banana by force. Homer valiantly resisted and in the ensuing struggle defiantly yelled at the gorilla the now-famous words which, like "Remember the Alamo!", will live on and be remembered in the hill country of Tennessee for generations: "Not today, furball!" Now, unfortunately, Maybelle's aim with a shotgun is not the best, and Homer narrowly missed becoming swiss cheese, as did the gorilla, who took off towards the trees along with Homer. At the moment I couldn't tell whether Homer was chasing the gorilla or trying to get away from Maybelle's wild aim. Being on a tight deadline for another photo assignment with National Geographic, I had to leave shortly, but by the time I left Homer had still not returned. Whether out of an abundance of caution because Maybelle still had the shotgun, or because he was determined to track down the gorilla, I couldn't tell you.
